Class finished at eight o’clock. Pads away, mats clear, session done. A few headed off home, and fair enough, it had been a hard hour.
A lot of them stayed on.
Our fighters were staying regardless, putting the work in on the bags for fight camp. That part is expected, it is what a fight camp is. The bit worth writing down is what happened around them. Members who had no need to be there picked a bag and got to work alongside the fight team. Nobody asked them to and it was not on the timetable.
That is what we call team spirit, and it is the thing people miss about WAKT. We are a fighters’ gym, we always have been, and we are proud of it. But a fighters’ gym only works because of the people standing next to the fighters. The ones holding pads, chasing rounds, turning up in the dark and the rain. Fight camp belongs to all of them.
If you have never trained before, you are welcome here. You will train on the same floor as the fight squad and you will be looked after while you learn.
