Lottie, one of our junior fighters, won gold at the British Championships on Saturday. It was her first ever fight.

She has been training at WAKT for 14 months. In that time she has not missed a class. She is at Fighter Squad every week without fail, she enters every interclub, and on one occasion when no suitable match could be found she got in and did a fight demo rather than sit it out.

That is the part people do not see. A first fight at the British Championships is a serious ask for any junior, and she handled it because the groundwork was already done. Nothing about Saturday was luck.

She is pictured with her coach Kirsty, who has worked with her closely since she started and has become a real mentor to her.

Every one of our juniors started the same way Lottie did, with a first class. Kids Thai Boxing runs on Mondays, 6pm to 7pm, for under 14s, and no experience is needed to start. We have been running in Pool, between Camborne and Redruth, since 1994. Full timetable at wakt.co.uk.
